As with the red-green section, the result is only a screening indication. It cannot confirm a blue-yellow deficiency or identify its cause.

How to Prepare for an Online Color Blindness Test

Online test results depend heavily on what your display actually shows. Take a minute to prepare before starting.

  1. Use normal room lighting. Avoid a very dark room, direct sunlight, or strong glare across the display.
  2. Set a comfortable screen brightness. The screen should be clear without appearing unusually dim or painfully bright.

How to Take the Online Color Blindness Test

Once your viewing conditions are ready, the screening process is straightforward.

1. Open the test

2. Begin the screening

Start the test when your display filters are off and you can view the screen comfortably. You will see one colored-dot plate at a time.

3. Identify the number or shape

Your responses showed a pattern in the blue-yellow group. Because displays can reproduce blue and yellow tones differently, checking the screen conditions and repeating the test may be useful.

Possible difficulty in both groups

Missed plates appeared in both the red-green and blue-yellow groups. This could reflect color perception, but poor display conditions can also affect several plate groups at once.

Inconclusive result

The control plate was not identified, so the remaining scores should not be interpreted on their own. Review your display settings, lighting, viewing angle, and understanding of the instructions before trying again.

Why This Is Screening, Not Diagnosis

A professionally administered color vision assessment takes place under controlled conditions. An eye-care professional can consider your visual history, examine your eyes, use standardized materials, and select additional tests when the first result is unclear.

An online screening cannot control:

  • Your monitor’s color accuracy
  • Automatic screen color adjustments
  • Ambient lighting and glare
  • The age or condition of the display
  • How far away or at what angle you view it
